My baby turned 4 yesterday. My baby! Sometimes I really don’t know where time went, but other days time just doesn’t seem to pass at all. You know the drill. But yesterday did come too fast. They’re getting bigger and smarter and louder. But I promise to always kiss you goodbye in front of your school and watch you walk through the doors. Always. Get it? There’s no way around it. So make peace with it, buddy

About a week ago our family grew. By one more dude. No, I wasn’t pregnant. We adopted. A cat. None of this was planned. We went shopping in town, which is 1 1/2 hours away and sometimes, we take the dudes to the pet store to look at the dragons. The store was packed when we walked in. We walked right into adoption weekend! What? So we did what every sane parent would do. We went into the cat room and cuddled. A lot. Then it was time to go. The kids water level started to rise by the millisecond. Then the unthinkable happened. The hubs said, hey, let’s just get a cat.

So 10 pages, 5 signatures and $300 later we welcomed Mr. Grouper to our family ♥

So far, he’s doing pretty well considering the noise level in our house. He likes to sleep in odd places, like behind the washer and inside the closet in the toy room, he already ate half of our dinner we accidentally left on the counter and threw up a hairball which caused some pretty weird expressions on the dudes faces. I guess, it didn’t take him long to be at home with us ♥

What a month! We got to go on a date, without kids, thanks to some awesome friends and we went to Vegas. And saw a show. And gambled away a whole $15. And drank alcohol. And stood up until 230am. And then even got to sleep in! Can you imagine? I didn’t bring the camera though, so no flashy Vegas photos for you this time. But we had a lot of fun around our house since it’s getting hot here. And I mean HOT. So what’s there to do? Play in the water. So basically, we spent the whole month in the backyard. There are worse things, right? Oh, and I turned 31. I always thought once you cross the 30 you’re basically dead. It’s not that bad. I’m actually feeling better than I did 10 years ago. Weird, huh?

community garden

There are some pretty hard working people here that got together to build a community garden. I’m sure this is not easy at all, especially in the desert. But it’s starting to take more and more shape, it’s looking greener and it’s starting to pay off. Not only for them, but also for me I had the chance to go roam around the gardens a little and photograph the life I found. My way. I guess it’s safe to say, I’m loving fine art more and more. It gives me a sense of peace and relaxation, it’s not as hectic and all over the place like photographing my dudes. I can take my time, slowly find the right frame and it kind of centers me. Weird, right? But you should try it. Find the beauty in the little details and enjoy it. And plant something. That you can do with your kids. But plant something. Then eat it. It’s good for you ♥

Big time. The big dude is in love. Head over heals. Writing love letters, coloring love pictures, blushing embarrassingly in love. And she is loving him back the same way. This has been going on for a while and now the little dude decided he has a girlfriend too. None of that mushy lovey dovey stuff though. He just has a girlfriend too. Luckily the girlfriends are sisters.

We started this month out being sick. Pretty bad for the big dude as you can see in the first photo, but the mood was lifted as soon as a package from Oma arrived with presents. And chocolate. Which is already gone… But then the month got way better. I found traces of spring in the desert, made Easter cookies, tried to decorate them, had family backyard BBQs and just overall lots of fun. And didn’t I make the coolest boy Easter eggs? LOVE them!

The theme this month over at Rock the Shot is flowers. I don’t have flowers here. I live in the desert! At least that’s what I thought. Then I saw it. A teensy, tiny flower growing in a crack in the concrete in my drive way. I’m sure my neighbors now think I’m completely insane, laying halfway under my car with a macro lens attached to my face and mumbling to myself. Because I do that. I mumble. It doesn’t even make sense, I just let some words fall out of my mouth. But hey, whatever gets the job done, right?

So here’s my teensy, tiny piece of spring in the middle of the Mojave Desert ♥
